Yoga is about creating balance between the mind, body and spirit which is achieved through exercises, breathing and meditation. The exercises, performed as poses or postures improve both strength and flexibility. There are both physiological and psychological benefits to performing yoga, including improved posture, decreased heart rate, blood pressure, and respiratory rate, improved sense of balance, concentration, and focus, and an increase in joint range of motion. The word “yoga” means “union” in Sanskrit, and the activity truly is a union of the mind, body, and spirit.
Pilates was originally devised as a way to rehab injuries. Now it is considered a great tool for body sculpting. It utilizes your core muscles to keep your torso stable. Many of these core exercises also sculpt and stretch key lower body muscles, including hamstrings, butt, and inner and outer thighs, all areas that women strive to tighten and tone. A toned body can improve confidence, and who doesn’t want to look and feel fabulous?
